Welcome to Carers Voice
Our job is to help give Carers who live in Bristol and South Gloucestershire a voice. We aim to give you the opportunity to tell us and the organisations who affect your life what you think...
This is your chance to change things by sharing your views, good ideas, experiences and concerns. There are a number of ways to get involved and have your say... these pages will explain them all!
There are many opportunities for you to have your say about changes in health and social care both locally and nationally. There are two main local forums where your carer representatives speak directly with, and influence, the decision makers in local councils and the NHS. In Bristol there is Bristol Carers Voice (BCV) in South Gloucestershire this is the Carers Advisory Network (CAN).
We also regularly advertise opportunities for carers to join small groups working in partnership with health and social care services, as well as opportunities to write letters and speak directly to the media.
Changes taking place at national level are all on this page - please scroll down.

Why your view is important...
Your comments and views can influence how future services are developed, or how changes to existing services are made. These could have a major impact on your life, and the person you care for. You might notice something that has been missed, or you might feel a particular service is BRILLIANT, or perhaps not as good as it could be. We work on a daily basis with the organisations responsible for the services that affect you - So Have Your Say and Get Your Voice Heard!
We welcome your views generally on any part of the website and especially if there are any documents you think should be included on the Carers Voice pages.

| Name | Government asks Carers to choose what's most important for 2011 - 2015 |
|---|---|
| Date | SHORT DEADLINE 20th September 2010 Posted 3/08/2010 |
| Summary | The Minister for Care Services, Paul Burstow, has announced the refresh of the National Carers Strategy. As well as asking for evidence about carer's needs from organisations like The Carers Centre, the Government also wants to hear from individual carers to establish 'what will have the greatest impact on improving carers' lives in the next four years'. There are some issues that are not covered by this 'Refresh'. For example, benefits are excluded as they will be dealt with separately. The Government is interested to hear about, 'support other than cash benefits that would help to improve carers' lives.' For more details on what the Government wants to hear about and what is excluded (page 2) see Further Information in the box below. This is your chance to communicate directly with the Government - in this time of financial cuts and reductions in services it is more important than ever that carers make their voices heard. | Name | Liberating the NHS - Government White Paper |
|---|---|
| Date | 5th October 2010 Posted 20/08/2010 |
| Summary | The Government is proposing to completely restructure the NHS and has set out its plans in a White Paper published in July 2010. Every part of the NHS will be affected by these changes. The Coalition Government has emphasised that this paper sets out its core vision for the NHS and it will not be producing another long term plan. However, this is being introduced as the NHS faces the biggest financial challenge in its history - including needing to find £20 billion in savings. A consultation is now being held inviting comments on these proposals until 5th October 2010. Some of the proposals will require a change in the law, while others will not - meaning that changes will happen in stages between April 2011 and 2013. You can Have Your Say in several ways:
