Ensuring care is continued during emergencies...

The Carers Emergency Card is a free service that provides up to 72 hours of emergency support to the person cared for in the event of an accident or emergency that prevents their carer from looking after their loved one.

Carers carry a card that identifies them as a carer. If the carer is taken seriously ill or has an accident, anyone who finds them can ring the emergency telephone number shown on the card, quoting the personal identification number. The Emergency Communications Team will then react to ensure the person cared for continues to receive the care they need.

The administration of the cards in South Gloucestershire is done by us at The Carers’ Support Centre. The administration of the cards in Bristol is done by the council’s Care Direct team. Although the cards look different, the response to an emergency situation is the same.

To apply for a South Gloucestershire card (person cared for pays council tax to South Gloucestershire County Council) call The Carers’ Support Centre CarersLine on 9652200 or email carersline@carerssupportcentre.org.uk

Or you can print off an application form here and return it to us.

Giving peace of mind

The service began in January 2007 and, since then, 3000 cards have been issued – a small piece of card giving big ‘peace of mind’ to carers as they go about their daily lives.
