Calling all Parents and Carers of children with additional needs living in South Gloucestershire... April 21st 2010
Our Voice Matters, is the new parent-led organisation that is helping to shape the services provided for children with additional needs who live in South Gloucestershire. Working in partnership with local service providers, the group are holding an Open Day on Thursday 27th May 2010 to give parent and carers an opportunity to find out more and to get involved.

The event will launch the brand new Bristol Parent Carers Group which will help to shape the future of the services provided for children and young people with disabilities and additional needs. New Coffee Morning! April 21st 2010

The Carers Centre is holding a special consultation event on Wednesday 14th April, dedicated to getting carers' views on the development of the new carers' strategy for South Gloucestershire. Carers Rights Day November 13th 2009
On Friday 4th Devember 2009 we will be holding our Carers Rights Day.
Come along for some early festive fun and the opportunity to chat, mix, mingle and munch! Our annual meeting is running from 11am until 3pm with registration and coffee from 10.30am at the Withywood Centre, Queens Road, Withywood, Bristol BS13 8QA

Are you sleeping comfortably? October 22nd 2009
On Wednesday 11th November 2009 Jo Smith, a local Occupational Therapist specialising in moving and handling techniques will be running a Bed Open Dayaimed at relatives or friends
who care for an older or disabled person and wish to assist them in bed mobility.
There will be two workshops covering getting in and out of bed, and moving whilst in bed - looking at techniques and equipment to promote independence and safer handling techniques to reduce the risk of back injury to the carer. Session 1 will be from 11am - 12pm, Session 2 will be from 1pm - 2pm. Places will be limited to 8 per session so please book early

Great finish for Royal Parks half marathon in London runner... October 16th 2009
Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me for the half marathon. I can report that I finished the run in 1 hour 39 minutes coming 1054 out of 15,000 runners.

Our Chief Executive Keith Sinclair will once again be running the Royal Parks half marathon in London this year, raising money for the Carers Centre. All donations are gratefully received, no matter what the amount and will go towards improving the lives of adult and young carers in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Green paper calls for fairer care system July 15th 2009
The Government has published a long awaited Care and Support green paper, calling for a much needed reform to care services in England. Home Secretary Andy Burnham outlined three options for the future funding and support of a care system which would provide "a pathway to protecting peoples' houses and investment in retirement".

Get your own key to disabled toilets throughout the UK June 23rd 2009
There are around 7000 disabled public toilets in the United Kingdom. Those who use these reguarly will know that most are kept locked to prevent misuse and vandalism. The National Key Scheme (NKS) offers independent access to these by way of a RADAR key that can be purchased for a small charge (to cover the costs of supply).
You can purchase your key online from www.radar.org.uk for £3.50. Also available is a book, listing all disabled toilets in the National Key Scheme across the Country.
